Why was the data set created?

The data was generated to help in understanding the seismotectonic hazards in the vicinity of the lower Wabash Valley. This data complements similar data collected in the vicinity of New Madrid, MO US Geological Survey Open-File Report 95-0574, available at http://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1995/0574/

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?
    Date: 26-Oct-1995 (process 1 of 2)
The length and orientation of seismic reflection line P-2 is inferred from the center of a circle shown on a small-scale index map (Figure 3) from Heigold and Kolata (1993).
Lines AB, AD, BC, DG, EF, FH, IH, and KJ were digitized from the locations of shotpoints from a large folded map in Rudman (1963).
Lines Posey-White Co N and S and Gallatin Co were digitized from Figure 2 in Bear and others (1997).
The Barnes Creek line was plotted from latitude and longitude data provided by John L. Sexton (written communication, 1995).
Latitude and longitude data for the COCORP lines, IL-1 and IN-1, were downloaded from Cornell University's website (http:www.geo.cornell.edu/).
Lines Webster Co, Union Co., Pope Co., and Muhlenberg Co. were derived from figures in Bertagne and Leising (1991).
The Grayville, New Harmony, and Hamilton Co. line locations were digitized from Figure 3 of Sexton and others (1986).
Lines RS1 to RS3 were digitized from data that was transferred from Figure 2 of Rene and Stanonis (1995), onto 7 1/2' topographic maps.
Lines HO5 to HO9 were digitized from Figure 12-1 in Heigold and Oltz (1991).
The Hicks Do,e line was digitized from an index map of Potter and others (1995), and then adjusted by eye.
reflec_all was clipped to create reflec.
