Description:
Abstract:
The Santa Ana Pueblo quadrangle is located in the northern part of the Albuquerque basin, which is the largest basin or graben within the Rio Grande rift. The quadrangle is underlain by poorly consolidated sedimentary rocks of the Santa Fe Group and is dominated by Santa Ana Mesa, a volcanic tableland underlain by basalt flows of the San Felipe volcanic field. The San Felipe volcanic field is the largest area of basaltic lavas exposed in the Albuquerque basin. The structural fabric of the quadrangle is dominated by dozens of generally north striking, east- and west-dipping normal faults associated with the Neogene Rio Grande rift.
Purpose:
The geology of the Santa Ana Pueblo quadrangle was mapped as part of the USGS Middle Rio Grande Basin project to explore the geologic framework of water resources in the region.

Data_Quality_Information:
Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
Original data were drawn on a 1:24,000-scale mylar greenline by the author.
Attributes have been checked by both the author and reviewers for accuracy and completeness.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
Polygon and chain-node topology present.
Map elements were visually checked for overshoots, undershoots, duplicate features, polygon attributes, and other errors. Automated (ARC/INFO) routines were used to check the databases for polygon label errors, line or point attribution errors, sliver polygons, dangling arcs, intersection errors, and projection information. The map was reviewed by other geologists for consistency with basic geologic principles and general conformity to USGS mapping standards.
Completeness_Report:
Some areas of the southern part of the map on lands of Santo Ana Pueblo were not visited or field checked.
Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
Lines and point locations were primarily mapped by photo-interpretation of field-marked 1:20,000-scale black and white, and 1:40,000-scale color-infrared aerial photographs using a PG-2 photogrammetric plotter that rectified the position and transferred locations to a 1:24,000-scale base map.
