Description:
Abstract:
The digital ARC/INFO databases included in this website provide a GIS database for the geologic map of the Dillon 1 degree by 2 degree quadrangle of southwest Montana and east-central Idaho. The geologic map was orginally published as U.S. Geological Survey Miscellaneous Investigations Series Map I-1803-H. This website directory contains ARC/INFO format files that can be used to query or display the geology of USGS Map I-1803-H with GIS software.
Purpose:
This GIS database was prepared to provide digital geologic coverage for the Dillon 1 degree by 2 degree quadrangle of southwest Montana and east-central Idaho.

Process_Description:
The original base materials used to create U.S. Geologic Survey (USGS) Map I-1803-H were digitized by staff of the USGS EROS Data Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. These digital files were transferred to the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology (MBMG) in Butte, Montana. In 1997 the USGS contracted the GIS staff of the MBMG at Butte to assemble and attribute this digital geology in ARC/INFO format. The goal was to create an exact digital reproduction of Map I-1803-H in ARC/INFO format data coverages. The MBMG completed the scanning, digital registration, and rectification of differences with the published paper map on 02/25/97. The resulting ARC/INFO datafiles were transferred from the MBMG to the USGS for review on 06/06/97. These files were manually proofed against the original published paper map by Bradley S. Van Gosen of the USGS in Denver. Final edits were completed at the GIS department of the MBMG in July 1997. The final ARC/INFO files were transferred to the USGS on 6/29/98. These ARC/INFO datafiles are provided in this website directory for public use in spatial analysis.
