Description:
Abstract:
The paper version of Map Showing Geologic Terranes of the Hailey 1°x2° Quadrangle and the western part of the Idaho Falls 1°x2° Quadrangle, south-central Idaho was compiled by Ron Worl and Kate Johnson in 1995. The plate was compiled on a 1:250,000 scale topographic base map. TechniGraphic System, Inc. of Fort Collins Colorado digitized this map under contract for N.Shock. G.Green edited and prepared the digital version for publication as a geographic information system database. The digital geologic map database can be queried in many ways to produce a variety of geologic maps.
Purpose:
This dataset was developed to provide a geologic GIS database of the terranes of the Hailey 1°x2° quadrangle and the western part of the Idaho Falls 1°x2° quadrangle in south-central Idaho for use in spatial analysis.

Ron Worl and Kate Johnson (all USGS) compiled the geologic terrane map onto stable-base material at a 1:250,000. That plate was published as USGS publication Bulletin 2064-A, Plate 1. TechniGraphic System, Inc. of Fort Collins Colorado digitized that plate for the USGS in 1999 under contract for N.Shock (USGS). G.Green (USGS) edited and prepared for release a digital version as a geographic information system database. The digital geologic terrane database can be queried in many ways to produce a variety of geologic maps. The files are stored in the following projection - UTM, meters, zone 11, NAD27, Clarke 1866.

Process_Description:
Clear film positives of the 1:250,000-scale geologic plate were electronically scanned to create raster images, converted to vector, polygon, and point GIS layers, and attributed by the contractor Techni Graphics Systems, Inc. of Fort Collins Colorado. Nancy Shock monitored the contract. Greg Green further attributed, edited, and checked for digitizing and attributing errors. Corrections were made as needed.
