Description:

Abstract:: This data set is a point coverage representing points from James Trumbull's "Coal Fields of the United States, Conterminous United States" (sheet 1, 1960) map. Resolution of data is 1:5000000. These points represent locations of coking coal. The Trumbull map was produced in 1960, so the currentnes of the information is most likely dated. There are no attributes associated to the locations.
Purpose:: This data set was compiled primarily for use in cartographic products. This coverage has also been used in web applications as well as in other miscellaneous graphic proudcts. Overall, the need for a digital version of this data was the underlying reason for generating this data set. Related covers include USCOAL (polygon coverage of US coal fields) and USAKCOALPT (point coverage of Alaska coal).
