This data set was compiled primarily for use in cartographic products. This coverage has also been used in web applications as well as in other miscellaneous graphic products. Overall, the need for a digital version of this data was the underlying reason for generating this data set. Related covers include USCOAL (polygon coverage of US coal fields) and USCOKECOAL (point coverage of Alaska coal).
